The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) program focuses on a small group of GEAR UP students, emphasizing college preparation through regular meetings, college campus visits and service learning projects that are grade and age specific. The committees bring students and their parents into the college information loop and create a model for other students to follow.

GEAR UP will support Youth Advisory Committees at our partner schools. To start a new Youth Advisory Committee at your school please submit an application to the GEAR UP office.

Gear Up Mississippi College Tours

Each year, GEAR UP Mississippi students are taken on tours of Mississippi colleges and universities. Research shows that one of the most effective ways to motivate students about college opportunities is to take them on a college tour. As the old saying goes "seeing is believing."

The tours are designed to familiarize students with a variety of colleges and illustrate the various types of academic majors and campus environments offered by our institutions of higher learning.

Information for GEAR UP Site Coordinators:
The Campus Tour Reservation Form must be completed and faxed to the GEAR UP office and also to the university or college you plan to visit at least two weeks before your visit.

After the tour is completed the Campus Tour Student Survey Form must be completed by each student who goes on the trip. The completed surveys should then be sent to the GEAR UP office.
